Coffeepot

The large coffeepot runs on propane.

Coffeepot Controls

To light the pilot light, remove the cover on the right hand side of the coffeepot.  Locate the control knob, turn it to "Pilot", and then press in.  Reach into the front of the coffeepot to light the pilot light.  Hold down the knob for another few seconds, check that the pilot light stays lit, then release the knob and turn the knob to "On".

The temperature control should be set to 10 for cold water, and 8 for hot water.

The ideal temperature to serve coffee is 160F, adjust the temperature control to suit.

Filling the Coffeepot

First check that the coffeepot is clean.  If the lid has been left on, mold is likely to grow in the bottom of the coffeepot.  Note that it saves a lot of time to fill the coffeepot with hot water.  The hot water heater in the trailer works very quickly, while the warehouse has a hot water heater that is always full of hot water.
The coffeepot should be filled with water (preferably hot water) to the fill line shown.
The hot water jacket should be filled with water (preferably hot water), to the fill line shown.

Use approximately 1.5 pounds of ground coffee to make a pot of coffee.

If instant coffee is used, start with about 8 ounces (half a pound) of freeze-dried coffee.  The instant coffee obviously saves time.  Be sure to put the water in first, then the coffee.

Coffee Filters

There are several choices of filters available, including disposable paper filters and reusable cloth filters.

Cleaning the Coffeepot

To clean the coffeepot, do the following:

1. Remove the coffee grounds and filter.

2. Drain all the coffee out of the pot.

3. Pour clean water into the coffeepot to rinse out the pot, drain out again.

4. Leave the lid off of the coffeepot to allow the coffeepot to dry.  If the lid is left on, mold will grow in the coffeepot, and it is very difficult to clean.

Note that the spigots can be removed for cleaning, if needed, just loosen the nuts holding them on.
